Mother Africa's Lament

Mother Africa stands in the doorway of her room
She is weeping angrily 'bout the children stolen from her womb
she say
I named my child Amafrica
'for the slavers stole him away
They beat me and raped me
then told him I threw him away

I'm Crying O O O O O.

Down in Babylon Amafrica imprisoned in a cell
Says 'I know my life wasn't always seventh Hell'
Though stolen from Mother Africa
I love her just the same
My home was Eritrea
But no place there can I claim
I'm crying O O O O O
What's an orphan to do

Back at Africa's a mother waits
hopeful but forlorn
she say 'if you see my child, tell him Please forgive me.
Please come home.'
'I'll leave a candle in the window,
the key is under the mat.
I'll be wearing a green dress
with a red flower in my hat.
I'm crying O O O O O
Child your mother loves you.
